Newcastle are currently in talks with former Liverpool winger Ryan Babel over a return to Premier league football. The Galatasaray man is understood to be keen on a switch back to England, where he has also represented the likes of Fulham. Steve Bruce has seen his team suffer from a lot of injuries. There are as many as 10 players on the treatment table. This long list of injuries has also been a factor in keeping the team very poor going forward. The team has only come up with 20 goals in the first 21 games. Hence, Newcastle are only better than Crystal Palace and Watford in terms of goals this season.
The likes of Miguel Almiron,Joelinton, and Allan Saint-Maximin have come up with a grand total of one goal each. As a result, Bruce is keen on spicing up competition within the team by signing a new player before the end of the window. Babel has been identified as a key asset, as he has been returning back to English football on short-term loan deals. The former Liverpool winger has come up with 114 goals in a career that has seen him represent 525 games. He has played in Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Turkey, and the UAE. More importantly, his time at Fulham saw him come up with five goals in 16 games.
As a result, Bruce has identified the 33-year-old as a potential target. The club also keen on Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud, who is very much expected to leave Stamford Bridge after falling down the pecking order under Frank Lampard. The French international has rarely been seen in the first team this season, as he has often been a substitute for Tammy Abraham. Giroud is likely to leave in January provided Chelsea find a suitable replacement before the end of the window.
